“Mimmi”
Yesterday around 2:30 Ruth Stockstill, affectionately known as “Mimmi,” joined the great cloud of witnesses in Heaven! I had the most incredible honor of holding her hand as she slipped out of her body and into glory. I had left a lunch appointment and was going to our south campus to prepare for a meeting, planning to prepare and rest for a while and then run and see Mimmi before the meeting. As I neared the intersection that led to the hospice where she was, I found myself turning right (right hand turns are important in the Stockstill family
) toward the hospice instead of going straight toward the campus. I decided I would visit her before AND after my preparation. I parked, walked casually into the building and into the room, set my purse down and took her hand. Her breathing was labored so I began to talk to her about Heaven. I told her how much I loved her, then began naming some of the many people that were eagerly awaiting her arrival. I told her to give our love to our Amy. Within less than ten minutes, she slipped into eternity. I was stunned at the favor of God to allow me that awesome privilege. “The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives” (Ps.37:23). Her memorial service will be this Friday, October 24, at 11:00 A.M. in the main sanctuary of the North Campus. Visitation will be in the main sanctuary from 9:00-11:00 A.M. We plan to post the service on the Bethany web page. Donations in her name can be made to the Global Twelve Project. Her life keeps giving!

Hi Sis. Melanie!
I was in the Worship Community meeting last night and heard you tell the stories surrounding your afternoon. What wonderful confirmations of God’s love we all received from hearing how he provided for your mother in law’s homecoming! What a special family you have, and how blessed my husband and I are to share in your rejoicing. We love you, and are praying continually for all of you!

Brother Roy, Brother Larry, Sister Melanie, Joel, Jonathan, Jared, Melissa, Jason, & James, as well as Jerry & Sue… we join you in your mourning as well as your celebration on the homecoming of our dear Sister Ruth. As soon as God instructed his ministering angel to bring our dear sister to Glory, surely the majestic angelic choir sang! At this time we can only covet Sister Ruth

What a beautiful testimony! David and I will be there on Friday. I was thinking of her this morning and thanking God for the privilege of knowing her and seeing her example; especially now, as we plant the church here in Huntsville. I thought of Paul’s words, ” I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” That was Sis. Ruth’s life. I pray that I will have that testimony at the end of my life. We love you all.

Sis. Melanie,
We are so blessed to be in the family with Sis. Ruth and the Stockstills. Pastor Larry stated to us on Tuesday night that there is no place he would rather be at this time than with us because we are family. I have such fond memories of Sis. Ruth going back to the days when she would lead the women dinner meeting, and encourage us to bring others. My best memory is the one on Tuesday October 21st when Mrs. Rita and I visited with her. She opened her eyes, after hearing Mrs. Rita’s voice, and looked into my face. I saw in her eyes the beauty of a life filled with love and care for others. Loaves and Fishes food and clothing ministry, and the Bethany Christian School are just two standing testimonies of Sis. Ruth’s fulfillment of God’s purpose for her life. You are so blessed, Sis. Melanie, to have been there as she entered the eternal presence of the Lord. You are God’s workmanship.

What a beautiful woman of God, and a great legacy she has left behind. Her and Brother Roy’s faithfulness to the Lord has truly been blessed with much fruit as seen in each of the Stockstill’s. Your family has touched so many lives, and I am honored to be a part of the Bethany family. May sister Ruth’s legacy continue on through all of us. God Bless!

Dear Sis. Melanie, There was a time in our life when we’d gone thru such a heartbreak with one of our children. As we entered church the first Sunday after this happened, there was Sis. Ruth. She’d been watching for us so she could take us in her arms & show her great compassion as only a Mother could. I will never forget how she went out of her way to be there for us. This was over 12 years ago, yet still impacts my heart today as I mentor younger women. She was always that mentor/Mother to so many–too numerous to count of us younger women. I will be forever grateful for her loving care & influence in my life. God bless all of you at her homegoing. You are are in our hearts & prayers.
